High Performance EngineerUp to £140,000
About the Role
Vsim builds the simulation and learning stack robots train inside, and speed is the whole product. vLab runs GPU-accelerated physics simulation, vLearn trains robot policies on top of it, and vBot is being built to run those models in real time on edge hardware. You'll own performance across that stack: finding where time goes and taking it back, hands-on, alongside two founders who still write engine code every day.
This is a senior IC seat, not a management one. The on-site engineering team in Cambridge is early-career, and they need a senior engineer in the room. You'll build, review, unblock and mentor. There's a path into formal leadership later if you want it. The lab also has humanoid and quadruped robots, so your work can reach real hardware.
What They're Looking For
- You write exceptional modern C++ and have made real systems measurably faster through profiling, memory layout, parallelism and knowing what the hardware is doing.
- You've worked on performance-critical software where latency or throughput is the product, such as engines, simulation, HPC, trading systems or embedded real-time systems.
- You're senior, and you've grown less experienced engineers through code review, pairing and clear task-setting.
- You listen. You work well with hands-on founders, debate ideas openly and don't need to go it alone.
- You want to be on site with the team in Cambridge every day, not dialling in.
About Vsim
Vsim builds GPU physics simulation and training infrastructure for robotics. It was founded in 2022 by two engineers who each spent over a decade building physics engines on Nvidia's simulation team. VC-backed with a long runway, it's a team of around 11 in Cambridge, UK, most of them engineers.
